The Wonderful World Of Albert Khan
The Hut Product Information
This ten part documentary series looks at the incredible collection of early colour photographs from the Albert Kahn museum.Over 72 000 colour photographs. One hundred hours of film footage. Hundreds of letters diaries and testimonies describing extraordinary journeys through exotic lands. This vast treasury is held in the archives of The Albert Kahn Museum in Paris – home to the most important collection of early colour photography in the world.Between 1908 and 1930 millionaire French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn decided to send photographers around the globe to document life on the planet. Thanks to his vast personal fortune Kahn’s photographers were able to travel to more than 50 countries capturing the environment and cultures of the known world. These photographers witnessed some of the most momentous events of the age but they also photographed the intimate details of the everyday lives of ordinary people. This beguiling series opens by exploring the origins of the project the photographic processes of the time and introduces Albert Kahn before telling the stories of journeys to England and Ireland in 1913.This fascinating series then goes on to provide the chance to examine the earliest known colour pictures taken in countries as far apart as Vietnam and Brazil Mongolia and Norway and Japan. Often Kahn’s photographers arrived in these countries at crucial junctures in their history. For example they recorded the collapse of both the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires - and the birth of completely new states in Europe and the Middle East. During World War I Kahn dispatched several photographers to the battlefields of Verdun capturing the destruction and crude medical procedures of the time; recording the hardship and heroism of the 39 million ordinary French men and women in the towns and villages on the front lines during the conflict. When the Armistice was signed in 1918 Kahn’s cameras captured scenes of jubilation in Paris and went on to document the return to normality. After almost 20 years the project came to an end. At the start of 1929 Kahn was still one of the richest men in Europe but by the end of the year the Wall Street Crash had reduced the financial empire of one of Europe's most successful financiers to rubble. Yet by then Kahn had already amassed one of the most important photographic collections in the world. A century after he launched his project Albert Kahn's dazzling pictures put colour into what we almost always think of as an exclusively monochrome age.

Chappell Of Bond Street Product Information
DAA is a beautiful tuning for the mountain dulcimer. This book contains 19 arrangements of traditional Irish, Welsh, French Canadian, Scottish, and American folk tunes and songs that are rich within their melodies, complemented by the DAA tuning. Although the DAA tuning results in predominantly linear movement of the fingers along the frets with jumps and runs along the melody or middle string, the richness of the DAA tuning more than compensates for extra finger movement. These arrangements are written in notation and tablature for the three-string dulcimer with chord symbols, with a mix of strumming and fingerpick/flatpick arrangements. Lyrics are included where appropriate. Beginning level of difficulty. The companion play-along CD features all of the tunes in the same order as the book, played by the author. Each tune name is announced, and spoken countoffs and cues for repeats and are also provided. The recording will help make the unique style of the dulcimer clear.
