Soul Heaven celebrates its 10th birthday in January next year. Having been the corner stone of all things soulful house Soul Heaven makes it’s mark with a fantastic triple CD compilation and if that wasn’t enough it’s only compiled and mixed by long serving resident the one the only Louie Vega.  Louie has been involved with Soul Heaven right from day one. Louie and once Soul Heaven owner Oli White discussed about showcasing Louie to a bigger wider audience. Enter Gareth Cooke and Simon Patterson whom were running Rulin at Ministry of Sound and the beginnings of something very special was born. It was decided that Bobby & Steve Jeremy Newall Phil Asher and Chrissy T would become the London residents. The Soul Heaven name came about when Oli & Simon heard the Pasta Boys mix of Soul Heaven in the box at Ministry and the perfect name was chosen for the perfect night.  In 2003 Bobby & Steve parted company along with Jeremy and Chrissy but by this time a brand new team had been established with Phil Asher Andy Ward Aaron Ross & Neil Pierce soon to be joined by new owner Fleur Woolford 2004.Soul Heaven parties (House Music touched by Soul ) always create a great buzz of excitement whether it’s a sell out season in Ibiza with Louie Vega a classy pool party in Miami for WMC or capacity road block event for Masters At Work at MOS. Soul Heaven has had a long standing residence at Ministry of Sound in London and has hosted parties in America Australia South Africa China Thailand Korea Indonesia & closer to home in France Germany Spain Italy Holland Portugal & Switzerland. Soul Heaven has played host to some of the biggest names in house music from International residents Little Louie Vega and partner Kenny Dope (plus of course MAW) to Tony Humphries Barbara Tucker Jazzy Jeff DJ Spen Osunlade Joe Claussell Ron Carroll Kerri Chandler & Dennis Ferrer Blaze Terry Hunter Karizma & Mr V all who have contributed either at their live events or have mixed for their now established series of compilation cds. As Soul heaven enters in tenth year it was an obvious choice to have international resident Louie Vega mix our latest CD celebrating 10 years Of Soul Heaven. Andrew Kötting's This Our Still Life is a deliciously eccentric portrait of the remote tumbledown Pyrenean farmhouse where the filmmaker, his wife Leila and daughter Eden have lived on and off for more than 20 years. Last seen in Gallivant (1996) as a plucky kid touring the coastline of Britain with her Big Granny, Eden, who was born with a rare neurological disease, is now a young woman aged 23. Here we see her painting still lifes and singing along to the radio as the seasons ebb and flow around her. In the words of Andrew Kötting: 'Ten years ago Eden and I started drawing ‘Still Life’ together and I found that I arrived at a meditative state of mind through this process ... more often than not we were living in our isolated Pyrenean farmhouse when we made these drawings. The house is called ‘Louyre’ and is up a track deep in the forest, underneath the shadow of a very tall mountain. Our lives there were a million miles away from the hubbub of London living. 'Eden was a baby when we moved in so the place is full of memories. I started to document our lives together on a Super 8 camera in 1989 and then again with a cheap digital stills camera in 2004. A portrait of ‘Louyre’ began to appear, but it wasn’t until the Christmas of 2006, when I was watching Stan Brakhage’s Dog Star Man, that I decided to start editing the material.' This lo-fi marvel features music by Scanner’s Robin Rimbaud and a range of voices from Kötting’s sound archive to explore notions of nostalgia, memory and place. It evokes a way of life which is elemental and rudimentary, unhurried and at odds with the modern world. As the seasons turn, voices in the filmmaker’s head seem to question the purpose of existence, but all attempts to impose meaning and structure remain inconclusive and fragmentary. A fairytale atmosphere is conjured up, not devoid of sinister or melancholy undertones, but full of magic and mystery, riotous colour and the play of light. "This is naked cinema, a thing of great value in a period of cultural stagnation and economic adventurism. This is the analogue presentation of the shadow on the cave wall teased into the digital age." (Iain Sinclair)
