Based on a the true story of a cadre of Nazi officers who grew to oppose Hitlers murderous pursuits and made several attempts to kill him in the late stages of WWII Valkyrie features a topflight cast with drama and suspense in equal measure. The film is a stylistic departure for director Bryan Singer (XMen X2) and star Tom Cruise with a screenplay by Christopher Mc Quarrie (The Usual Suspects) and Nathan Alexander that is constructed like a heist film with a team of likeminded men coming together for a common purpose and facing incredible odds. It is 1943 and though he has come to be disgusted by Hitlers campaign of evil Count Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) has risen to the level of lieutenant colonel in the German army. Convinced that Hitler must die Von Stauffenberg requests a transfer to Tunisia where he loses his left eye and right hand during an Allied air raid. Falling in with a group of similarly disillusioned officers including Major General Henning von Tresckow (Kenneth Branagh) General Friedrich Olbricht (Bill Nighy) General Friedrich Fromm (Tom Wilkinson) and Colonel General Ludwig Beck (Terence Stamp) Stauffenberg is at the centre of several attempts on Der Fuhrers life culminating in a bombing that kills a handful of his officers and leaves Hitler only slightly injured. Though advance photos of Cruise in Nazi uniform brought Valkyrie negative publicity his restrained performance is at the heart of this wellcrafted thinking persons action movie. He is bolstered by an incredible British cast including Branagh Stamp and Wilkinson and by the films dazzling art direction. Though its a story to which viewers should already know the ending Singer still creates ample suspense. The result is a taut and effective historical thriller.Contains 1 disc. Cert 12.

Green The Marvel comics hero returns for more highflying fun in this third instalment in the series. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is up to his usual Spidey tricks attending university classes as an awkward geek then quickly slipping into his redandblue suit to save New York City from various villains. And there are villains aplenty. Thomas Hayden Church blows in as the Sandman an escaped convict whose molecular structure is destroyed in a particle accelerator. The freak accident gives him the ability to form and reform from piles of dust. While the Sandman sifts through the city streets robbing banks Spidey must also contend with his onetime friend Harry (James Franco) who has taken up where his father the Green Goblin left off. Harry chases Spider Man down on his goblin glider hurling pumpkin bombs. But Spider Mans biggest battle is perhaps within himself when he is taken over by meteorite oozea substance that gives him great power but also turns him into a vengeful selfish person. Throw into the mix Peters new competition at the Daily Buglethe ambitious sneaky Eddie Brock (Topher Grace)and Peters relationship troubles with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and Spider Man 3 weaves a tangled web indeed. Director Sam Raimis playful style and his delightfully campy screenplay hold true to the spirit of the Stan Lee comics and he does an excellent job of hitting all the right super hero notes. Raimi has created an action film that is a feast for the eyes but comes with fully rounded characters and a moving moral lesson to boot. The special effects are astounding but Raimi makes sure the film isnt all action and no talkhe makes Peters struggle a human one and one that we can all relate to regardless of our webspinning ability. Contains 1 disc. Cert 12.

Snow Nick Stollers Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a romantic disaster comedy produced by the same team that made such hits as The 40 year Old Virgin and Knocked Up headed by writer director and producer Judd Apatow. When he gets suddenly and unceremoniously dumped by his longtime girlfriend television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell Veronica Mars) composer Peter Bretter (Jason Segel Freaks and Geeks) is devastated. Miserably depressed he seeks solace in tawdry onenight stands but he is desperate to win Sarah back. On the advice of his stepbrother Brian (Saturday Night Lives Bill Hader) Peter heads off to Hawaii for a muchneeded vacation but he gets even more freaked out when he discovers that Sarah and her new beau wild and wacky British singing sensation Aldous Snow (Russell Brand Ponderland) are staying there as well. Mired in sadness Peter is befriended by hotel employee Rachel Jansen (That 70s Shows Mila Kunis) who encourages him to get back his life and pursue his own dreams which include staging a Dracula musical with puppets. But Peter is blinded by his desire for Sarah even as he grows closer to Rachel and starts hanging out with some of the hotels odder personalities including Chuck (Paul Rudd) a drugaddled surf instructor and Matthew (Superbads Jonah Hill) a drugdealing restaurant worker obsessed with Snow. Segel wrote the screenplay a sharp blend of comedy and drama and is solid in his first major starring role. Stoller making his featurefilm directorial debut gets the most out of his diverse cast and beautiful setting especially Jack Mc Brayer and Maria Thayer as a newlywed couple having some bizarre sexual problems and Billy Baldwin as Sarahs costar in the television show Crime Scene: Scene of the Crime. Forgetting Sarah Marshal is an outrageously funny yet touchingly sweet movie. Contains 1 disc. Cert 15.

Ben Stiller plays Larry Daley a downonhisluck divorced father in this familyfriendly tale directed by Shawn Levy (Just Married Cheaper By The Dozen). Larry has lots of ideas and dreams but none of them come to fruition. In an attempt to prove his stability to his exwife (Kim Raver) and his son Nicky (Jake Cherry) Larry accepts a job as a night guard at the Museum of Natural History. But the elderly night guards who hire him (played by entertainment legends Mickey Rooney Dick Van Dyke and Bill Cobbs) fail to mention one crucial detail: when the museum is closed everything inside comes to life. From Attila the Hun to miniature Roman soldiers African mammals to Neanderthal men and Egyptian mummies to dinosaur skeletons the museum teems with lively activity. Now its Larrys job to control the mayhem and show his son that he is indeed a great man after all. There might be a moral to this story which is based on the book of the same name by Milan Trenc but the screenplay and action remain light and breezy. Stiller is perfect as Larry particularly in scenes with a sneaky monkey who repeatedly gets the better of him. Brief appearances by Anne Meara (Stillers reallife mother) and Paul Rudd add to the fun. Carla Gugino plays a museum docent Ricky Gervais portrays the incomprehensible museum director and Robin Williams moonlights as a wax figure of Teddy Roosevelt that comes to life. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan are particularly amusing as a bickering miniature cowboy and a Roman soldier. Contains 1 disc. Cert PG.
