The Hut Product Information
Nina is a neuroscientist who works at the Glasgow Science Centre. She is fun bubbly but has the presence and authenticity of a real scientist who knows her stuff. The Neurons are characters who live in Nina's brain and like real human neurons send messages from her brain to the parts of her body which control her senses. Nina has some dialogue with the neurons but most of their activity and chatter is amongst themselves commenting on the action while 'looking out' from Nina's brain. Each neuron is named to reflect the sense they control: • Luke is the sight neuron. He's the group leader but in a very laid back and relaxed fashion. He is very cool! • Belle is the sound neuron. Her character is quite loud and slightly bossy but still likeable. • Felix is the touch neuron. He is slightly sensitive speaks in a deliberate posh accent. Fussy about his appearance he regularly fixes his hair. • Ollie is the smell neuron. She is very sweet self assured and a bit of a goth. Though her little brother Bud can bug her at times she loves him dearly. • Bud is the taste neuron. He is the baby of the bunch and talks in a slightly childlike manner. Bud oozes enthusiasm and is easily excited by whatever is going on. Extraordinary X-rays Jordan Jaymee and Honor ask Nina: How can an X-ray take a picture of my bones? With help from lovely Luke the sight neuron Nina shows the three friends a real x-ray machine in her workshop before packing her bag and taking them somewhere to see another one in action. Hot and Cold Felix the touch neuron helps Nina find out how a flask works. Joined in her workshop by Sophie and Megan Nina takes apart a thermos flask and looks inside. Afterwards they all don their hats and scarves and head off somewhere very cold that uses the same science as a flask. Mirror Mirror Friends Ciara Morgan and Rachel ask Nina how a mirror works. With the help of lovely Luke Nina shows what mirrors are made of and how they reflect. Then Nina and the girls set off to see a beautiful invention that uses mirrors at night Loud and Clear Nina asks sound neuron beautiful Belle to help her find out how speakers work. At Nina's workshop they open up a speaker and find out what's inside before heading off to another exciting location. In this noisy episode we'll see beads dancing to music and Nina doing a lot of shouting. Pen and Paper Nina asks lovely Luke the sight neuron to help find out how pens work. She goes to see a very tall and spinney invention that uses the same technology and shows how to make your very own chunky marker. Near and Far Daniel Kevin and Mansi ask Nina: How do binoculars make far away things look closer? Nina looks inside some binoculars in her workshop and then they all head off to see something exciting that uses the same science. They learn all about lenses and prisims and find out how to make an upside down telescope. Get Wet Jack Elliott and Lloyd want to know: How does my water soaker work? Fabulous Felix the touch neuron lends a hand as Nina and the boys take a good look inside a water soaker and go out and visit a very large and watery invention that uses the same science. They learn all about pressure and how to invent their own water soaker. Eyes in the Dark Emma Tara and Hannah ask Nina what makes those little lights in the middle of the road shine. The little lights are cats' eyes and when the girls come down to Nina's workshop she takes one apart and discovers retroflectors. Afterwards they set off to visit somewhere where they meet people who use retroflectors every day.
