    Look HSC5 SL Carbon Fork: Instead of adding an aluminium crown race, the Look engineers have moulded a carbon crown race flange into the fork's crown. The benefits of this are three fold: a lighter headset component as no crown race is needed, a more precise steering assembly due to the bearings directly fitting onto the fork and a better overall construction of the fork as the long weave VJM carbon fibre is uninterrupted from fork blade to steerer.The crown is oversized due to the increased amount of VHM Carbon used to give this area of the fork the required level of strength and rigidity.A carbon fibre tube or fork blade is made from several layers of carbon fibre. Each of the layers' carbon fibres are laid in a different direction to the last. Just how Look do this to offer the best vertical compliance and lateral stiffness without being too harsh is a closely guarded secret. And that's not all. It's not just the number of layers and the carbon direction of each layer that make a good carbon component, but just how much carbon fibre is used.
