The Top Gear road trips have fast become a favourite with fans of the show and the two challenges included on this bumper packed DVD prove that Top Gear likes to take its challenges to the furthest point possible creating the ultimate test of man against machine. Featuring two of the team’s most ambitious challenges to date - Top Gear Vietnam Special and an exclusive Director’s Cut of Top Gear Botswana Special featuring seven minutes of additional footage. In the first challenge the team ditched the draughty aircraft hangar and headed for the wide open spaces of Botswana on a 1 000-mile safari across the spine of Africa. To make things as hard as possible for our intrepid trio the producers challenged each of the presenters to complete the journey in a normal two-wheel drive car bought for just £1 500.Armed with a bundle of cash James bought a 1985 Mercedes 230E Jeremy a 1981 Lancia Beta Coupe and Richard an Opel Kadet made in 1963 which he named Oliver. The three were soon heading for the Namibian border beginning their journey from a little village on the border between Zimbabwe and Botswana. But before they reached their destination the boys had to negotiate the vast openness and primordial sludge of the Makgadikgadi salt pans the choking dust of the Kalahari Desert not to mention the treacherous rivers and hungry wildlife of the Okavango Delta.Along the way they encountered more or less every dangerous animal known to man including hippos elephants and the apparently testicle-crazed honey badger - as well as petrol shortages flying vice-presidents and the Stig's African cousin.In the second of our two adventures Clarkson Hammond and May head to Vietnam. Their challenge to travel the entire length of the country in just eight days thereby achieving what the American military failed to do in ten years. First they must each buy some suitable transport for the trip but the several million dong they have in their pockets proves to be rather less money than they thought especially in one of the most expensive car markets in the world. Nonetheless the boys are resourceful and with the wheels eventually sorted they set off on one of the most spectacular and incredible road trips Top Gear has ever attempted.
