However, the stranding of these cables was optimized to compensate for the coiling, which adds inductance, and affects the sound. If you think of a monitoring system as a kind of "lens" through which you hear sound the object is to have the lens be crystal-clear and transparent so that it imparts no coloration whatsoever to the signal being played back.
