The first edition of Neufert's book was published in Germany many years ago and has been progressively revised and updated in the course of 26 German editions. Translations have also been published throughout Europe with great success and it is doubtful if any architectural book has ever achieved such international usage and esteem. The special merit of the book lies in the succinct compilation of fundamental design data and basic technical information in one book.Plans, sections, forms and types are given in simply dimensioned diagrams drawn to scale. This is a third 1975 re-issue of the first 1970 English translation; seven different translators being involved.This large format 21 x 30 cm. hardback, with jacket, has 340 pages of drawings and explanatory text.Covering all imaginable aspects of the subject, with, for example, sections on design principles, heating, lighting, stairs then whole buildings such as libraries, schools, shops, farms.etc. etc.So both whole and parts of buildings covered in detailed text and innumerable b/w drawings. This copy has been the property of an architectural firm and so has a name stamp on the first blank page.The jacket has some wear and slight creasing.Otherwise a very clean copy. An indispensable guide and starting point for any architect, beginner or experienced.Both practical and good to look at.

In 1949, the photographer Lucien Herve took photographs of Unite d Habitation, an innovative apartment building in Marseille, France. He sent them to the building's architect, Le Corbusier, who immediately realised that after forty years of searching he had finally found a photographer with an architect's soul. Their seminal collaboration is extensively documented in this album of 1200 cardboard sheets of Herve's carefully edited, sequenced and labelled contact prints, housed at the Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris. Originating as a vehicle for dissemination of the architect's work and as a commercial venture for the photographer, these contact sheets now form an extraordinary archive of modernist architecture and photography in the mid-twentieth century.
