They work by pushing some of the water rearward like an old paddlewheel steamship. As a paddle fin is pushed through the water, much of the water spills over the top surface of the blade and sticks to it, creating drag. Extra kicking effort is needed to overcome that drag.In contrast, the Split Fin slices though the water with two wing shaped surfaces, creating lift and forward propulsion more like a propeller. Any water traveling over the top of the blade is funneled into and out of the opening (split) between the blades. Drag is reduced, effort is reduced and efficiency is increased. The Split Fins can even reduce your air consumption by 20-40% as documented by independent tests.EZ-LOK buckle system (Patent Pending) This totally new buckle system snaps on or off the fin with ease, yet the positive action will not release accidentally.     Tusa's Imprex Tri-Ex Fins are fins with world-class efficiency, making the most of your energy. In 1993 TUSA introduced the IMPREX fin to the market. This fin achieves strong propulsion by combining two different materials to create an efficient water channelling action. Since it first went on sale, over 600,000 divers have used it worldwide and it has been the undisputed leader in the plastic fin market. Now, ten years later, we are moving to the next development stage. The next generation IMPREX Tri-Ex fin utilizes three different materials. First is the side rib (hard material), efficiently converting the energy of a kick into propelling power. Second is the blade (medium-hard material), increasing the efficiency of the water channel. Third is the soft pocket (soft material), enhancing the fitting comfort of the boots. The designers expanded the blade angle theory that had produced a strong propulsion force with only a light kick in the SF-8 model. A fin testing robot was used to do a computer analysis of the propulsion (speed) and electrical load when kicking. Tests were also run using real divers in a water circulating pool. After repeating these tests many times, the blade angle was set at 20 degrees, the most comfortable for the diver. A smooth shape was also created with no level differences between the foot pocket and the blade. This means that compared with conventional products, less initial load (energy) is required when first starting to kick. The excellent fit and efficient transmission of energy ensures that body fatigue and air consumption is minimised. Available in new pale pink colour.

Unlike traditional fins which create propulsion only through repulsive force, the SF-8 attains propulsion by creating a pressure differential in the water flow. To achieve maximum performance from this fin, use a small bent-knee kick with a light rhythm. This created less strain on the leg muscles compared with traditional fins, reducing the diver's fatigue and subsequent air consumption. 27 degrees Tech Reasons When using the standard, flat fin, with the leg completely extended, there remains an angle of 27 degrees between the heel of the foot and the calf of the leg, causing a 10% loss of propulsion. Because the fin is angled below the body, during the kick phase the body is pushed up and forward instead of straight ahead. With the SF-8 fin, that 27 degree angle has been designed into the fin so the fin is parallel to the leg. This means that 100% of the energy expended during the kicking phase is directed towards the propulsion of the diver. TUSA has developed the technology that has resulted in the creation of a robot that can replicate the motions of a human being. The robot is able to mimic the human underwater kick-bending at the ankle, knee and hip in one fluid motion. Using this robotic science, TUSA has been able to analyse the performance of the fins under several different conditions. The robot is able to swim through the water using kick variations, such as a large scissor kick with a slow repetition or a small flutter kick with a swift repetition and vice versa. Using high-tech instrumentation, this robot measures the energy expended during the kick and the propulsive force that is created using that energy. Available in pale pink
